It’s a haves vs have nots scenario but not in the way you’d think. Since the obesity epidemic started to take shape in the 90s/2000s, being overweight has been stigmatized in such a way that if you’re skinny, you have an unconscious bias in thinking overweight people are just lazy. Our society gives unspoken access to people in smaller bodies. With the advent of weight loss drugs, many people believe that people are “cheating their way” to said access.

I feel like people are frustrated with the lies of celebrities? Like, just be honest or keep your mouth shut. Don’t be out here like “I lost 50lbs in a month with Pilates”

I get mad when they give weightloss advice and not disclose that they were aided with a weightloss drug. I know it can still take a lot of work to lose weight, but the drug helps you a lot. So it turns into a cycle of people not getting the same results, wondering why, and the weightloss advice not being fully credible.

There is no miracle weight loss drug! Unfortunately you gain the weight back and more when you stop taking it. There is no way around putting in the work of eating right and exercising. Make it your lifestyle and get rid of all the diet scams.

Because real weight loss is supposed to be changing your lifestyle. Once you are don’t with the drugs you will gain it all back because you didn’t change your habits.

I’m diabetic and take Ozempic for that. I’ve never had an issue with overeating. I don’t really think about food. However, I have at least 3 friends taking semaglutides who did have issues with weight and eating. They had what’s called “food noise,” which means thinking of food constantly, what you’re eating, what you’re going to eat for dinner, what you’re going to eat for snack, on and on. The food noise stopped immediately after starting the drug. It’s not just making people less hungry.

Thank you, I really needed this thread. People like to keep people down. It makes them feel better about themselves, even when they shouldn’t and people with obesity are the final frontier of socially acceptable targets of hate and bullying. Being overweight is complex. It isn’t just I ate too much at Christmas, I need to starve for January. It’s a mental battle and if we need medication to help, then like all illnesses we should be allowed to use whatever means are available to help.

Because people cannot mind their business about something that is not about them. What someone uses for weight loss/ A1c control is between them and their healthcare provider! Nobody else!
