My wife and I welcomed our firstborn into this world December 2020 in the midst of the global pandemic. She delivered the baby while wearing a surgical mask and I supported her bedside while wearing mine. When my son was handed to his mom, his newborn eyes didn't get to see her smile. He saw a mask. A few hours passed before we were alone and could take them off. I'm not complaining, the world was a scary place at that time. But I do think about it often.
