Help me test a theory that occured to me in the middle of the night: If you have ADHD (or any form of ND, really), do you have a really high pain + discomfort tolerance?

I understand discomfort is a tricky one because of the overstimulation factor, but I'm still curious 👀

I can sit for hours and get tattooed, Sit or stand in awkward positions that are painful whilst working on a client for hours as I hyperfocus and it all just blocks out But two people talking to me at the same time whilst the tv is on is excruciating and I just get up and leave I’ll take a 8 hour session on my inner bicep over that shit any day

My understanding is that (at least with autism) the experience is “different”. Some things can show no pain response in the brain (when they should) while others (that “shouldn’t”) do. Some cool studies on it are out there if you want to read about it.

High pain. Low discomfort. I've put back in my own dislocated joints but can't be hot 🤷♀️

yes extremely high pain tolerance, tattoos tickle, deep flesh wounds don't feel like anything. discomfort like headaches and things annoy the shit out of me though because it prevents me from functioning how I want to. it's already hard enough to get shit done with my messy brain

yes if I’m prepared for it. If it’s a surprise then no.

Yes. My overhwelm comes from social situations and unpleasant noise. I had two unmedicated births and while I would definitely say it was an intense experience, it wasn’t traumatic and I am glad I did it.
