Ok, so geologist chiming in here: North America and South America are on separate continental plates. They are separate continents, both according to geology and geography. Europe, Russia, and Asia are all part of the Eurasian plate and are, geologically, one continent. However, geographers (not geologists) separate Europe from Asia as two separate “continents”.
