We can't see their faces on camera in the common areas.

Especially when it’s so COLD in the school lol.

Even with little kids it’s a way to hide and not engage. Particularly with little learners we want to see their faces to see if they are understanding.

Whyte teachers worried about stuff that isn’t important. I’ve actually heard the words, “You wouldn’t wear a hood in a courtroom, or a church!”

Can't identify them on the cameras. Safety first. Bigger fish are yet to be fried.

As a secondary teacher I’ve never cared about hats. My admin do. Hoods are a great way to hide earbuds so you can zone out during instruction. I don’t tolerate them.

It’s at teacher discretion I’ve noticed certain teachers see it as a sign of disrespect if a student doesn’t take it off. I’ve watched power struggles. Personally I do not care.

Our school cameras have facial recognition but the hoods throw it off.

As an former Kindergarten and elementary school teacher, (I teach middle school now), it is my understanding that students of any age cannot wear hats or hoods inside the school for the primary reason of identification. School staff needs to be able to quickly identify students and if they are wearing a hood, or hat, it’s harder to see their face and they are harder to identify. Also, it’s part of teaching them about respect. Usually, when inside of a public building you take your hat/hood off.

I know in upper elementary kids will hide wearing air pods under their hoods. Aside from that, it is good manners to take off hoods and hats indoors. Yes, manners still exist and, unfortunately, it has fallen to schools to teach them.
