It you look school more like a place where people can hone and learn their craft, then art school makes more sense. There are mediums that require a lot of skill and equipment knowledge like glassblowing, metal smithing, 3d sculpture, or even more modern computer graphics and 3d modeling techniques still require big learning curves to learn industry standard software.

I understand this perspective, I've got a BFA and am in an MFA program, I think it's entirely possible to go to Art school and learn nothing but "how to fit in" (so to speak). If you're self motivated though you have the potential to learn so much about context, theory and history which is, imo, what separates good art from great art. If you want the vocabulary to know and explain *why* your art is great, some form of education is necessary, but again that's just my opinion/experience

Why be self taught when there’s so many tutorials on YouTube etc. I also learn so much just from reading art magazines and books, seeing what others do is so helpful!
