Narcissists are, however, people. And I daresay that the prevailing ad-hominem mentality of casting them to oblivion in an effort to wipe out the toxicity that plagues them is probably quite effective at locking them into their tendencies. We all need boundaries, and no one should be a doormat for another person, but the unloveable are the ones most in need of love, and when we refuse to do that, we reveal the same darkness in ourselves that we find so repugnant in them.
