58s and 57s, while used in the studio (57 on guitar amps, snare etc), they aren't as useful as a large diaphragm condenser for both voice or acoustic guitar and are more suited to live work. As someone mentioned, the rode nt1 is a good buy, but also SE, sontronics and many other make excellent entry level mics in this price point. If you're doing electric guitars- try going direct in and using plugins for the amps, they're very good now and you get flexibility to re-amp & record silently.
