I just spent all week working on an indie feature and I’m still recovering from how exhausting it was. I’m filling out my time card and just now realizing my hourly rate is only $1.65 above the local minimum wage. No wonder the director and DP were constantly expressing their gratitude, this is basically charity work lmao.

Probably not, they made their money, same as you, working the day rate they agreed to. The producers? Maybe. The distributors? Yes. Unless the producer has 5-10 movies out that are collecting what I would assume are Pennies on the dollar compared to what was spent to produce the features they are going to get robbed by the distributors. The distribution system in place is going to end indie film.

Lockamy tyler_lockamy	Also, the director and DP probably spent days if not weeks during preproduction crafting a shot list/storyboard that they’ll refer to on the day of that no one has even looked at. If they don’t have one I would say walk. Because you’re going to spend the first 4 hours of the day figuring out what the shots of the day are. And you’ll be there for 12 hours and barely surviving. And that’s no way to work.
