I'm sorry so many people are getting hung up on the material aspect of this post. I'd imagine that your family's attitudes match the empty stocking and lack of assistance. It's not that you want THINGS, it's that you want consideration. That this is hard to see is upsetting. You can be considerate of people while not giving gifts. I doubt that's what has been happening.
