Question for strangers on the internet: (I will probably take this down after getting some feedback) My in-laws live on the opposite side of the country. We’ve visited them, with our small children, four times for a total of about 5 months cumulatively. I breastfed both of our children …and did so with a nursing cover wherever they needed to eat. On our last visit, 5 days before we were supposed to leave, I was told that they had a “house rule” about not nursing in the living room… (1/2)

It’s disgusting that since then at least one of them has sexualized you feeding your child. You are under no obligation to go out of your way to visit people like that. Roads work both ways. If they want to see your children, they can come to your house where you have every right to breastfeed whenever and however you want and they can shut it

If they are that uncomfortable (some are, I guess), I would personally use it as a nice excuse to get “me time” in another room. You can also say, thanks for the heads up, sounds like it’s an issue, so we’ll save our next visit till BFing is done.

I probably would have been an AH about being asked to stop. I was definitely the AH to my own MIL when she tried to cover me with her scarf when I nursed my 6wo in the MEPS waiting room when we were sending my husband off to BT. Feeding babies is a necessity, no matter how you choose to do it. Got a problem with it, take it up with the Creator.
