Let's be clear. There are many journalists doing tremendous work on many beats. But there is an elite corps of political reporters at the NY Times and WaPo in particular, along with their editors, who have absolutely failed in their journalistic responsibility to the American public. It's not new. Didion wrote about it in 1996. Frank Rich in 2009. But the stakes today are higher.
