Question for the overweight or formally overweight neurodivergent people. How did/do you manage to coax yourself into exercising when it is sensory hell/makes you feel dizzy as fuck? I want and need to lose weight but exercise is painful and overwhelming for me. Plus the demand avoidance and executive dysfunction isn't helping :(

Find something you like, find a time of day where it doesn't affect your dizziness. Also, food makes the biggest difference to weight. But you could add snack sized movements throughout the days. 😀

Find something you enjoy. I always liked my favourite music, it gives me that little dopamine boost. Create an epic playlist for yourself. That works for everything that is low dopamine.

I started small. Incremental. Stick to things you don't hate. I walked more but listened to my favourite songs while I did it. When I couldn't walk outside I walked on the treadmill, again music, videos, podcasts, audio books, whatever gets you to keep moving. Then I went on holiday and swam every day. Found a slot for lane swimming locally, I go before work (I'm already up and out) and swim in the slow lane with the older folks, round and round and round slowly no pressure. Really helps...1/2

You have to gamify/make it fun. Finding what you enjoy to make it work, what gets the dopamine flowing. And taking it slowly at first. Also never ever compare yourself to another, your progress will not be the same as another's. Also good luck!

For me, taking an in-depth exercise class (Pilates) helped with the demand avoidance/executive dysfunction. The parallel play aspect kept me on track and part of our grade was making our own routine. I still follow the routine I made in this class. It’s something I can easily do at home, outside, or at the gym. I have health problems that made it hard for me to walk long distances too but now it’s my main form of exercise because Pilates strengthened my muscles enough to pursue it.

Swimming. It's great cause it can feel like you're just splishy splashing playing mermaids and it still gets your whole body moving, plus zero impact, and you can't feel your sweat. I'm also hypermobile, so stretching in the pool is a lifesaver.

Controversial opinion. Gardening 😉🍃 pre workout is a game changer

Any movement above baseline is good. Buy a hula hoop, dance spastically in your living room, or try random online classes that sound interesting. There is literally no place too small to start.
