My grandma passed away yesterday morning. I just want to share a little story about her. The last few years, she's had dementia and a couple years ago she forgot who I was. She was always happy to see me, she just couldn't remember how she knew me. Well, one day she was convinced I was her cousin. She kept stopping people that passed by us to ask if they'd met me and she'd introduce them to "her cousin." I just let her, but finally someone else chimed in to remind her I wasn't a cousin, (1/2)

She has dementia too, there’s been a few times where she doesn’t remember necessarily who I am but that she gets happy when she sees me and she never fails to call me granddaughter after I’ve called her grandma. I just never get to understand pretty much anything that she says 😪

It always made me sad to hear other people in the memory care home get mad at parents who couldn’t remember them. I know they were doing pregrieving, but wished they could roll with it and love on their parents.
