To start, the mortality rate may be higher in men, but the suicide attempt and ideation rates appear to be much higher in women. (This may come down to who has access to lethal means, like firearms.) But before you get it twisted, the data we do have doesn't tell the whole story, either. Many attempt survivors do not reach out for support after their attempts, or do so in ways that aren't reflected in these statistics.
