When people find out I study German, they grimace. “Ug, German… a heavy, clumsy, bulldozer language.” I think not. A beautiful and elegant language. Not that I have a lot to compare it to. But there’s great sensual pleasure in just pronouncing German words and grooving on the rhythms in the sentences. Most native English speakers would find themselves very at home in German. English is sort of a reflection of German. Tons of English words are German in origin.
