Why do exclusive pumping is not considered breastfeeding?? You are literally just putting the milk in a bottle, but the food source which is the milk is still from the breast. 🤦🏻♀️

EP/pumping moms should be able to call it whatever they want bc it’s hard freaking work.

My doctor told me if they consume more than 50% breast milk they are considered breastfed!!

I always said breastfed even though I exclusively pumped in the beginning.. then when he could latch I said “I nurse and bottle feed breast milk” since we didn’t use formula. I used to the term nursing to define the latching situation. Maybe that was weird for people

Agreed.. only thing I saw of difference were some studies showing differences in nutrient content of the milk with breastfeeding vs pumping. Also the emotional bond stuff of directly breastfeeding.

EP is harder ..it's less convenient and stressful when you have to leave the house, it's just straight up more work..

I think there are SOME instances where it’s important to differentiate. If a doctor needs to know if baby is on breast milk or formula, then it doesn’t matter. But feeding by bottle- breast or formula milk- can lead to overfeeding more easily than breastfeeding from the breast can. There are also other things like your baby’s saliva can communicate to your breast when it’s sick and your body will adjust the milk for baby, etc. But that’s not anyone’s business

You’re feeding with your breasts, but there’s no denying there are specific advantages to feeding ON the breast. Transfer of saliva to the mother produces targeted antibodies for the baby, there’s a different hormone release for the mother, lifelong oral and craniosacral development for the baby is better…. So sure, if you want to call it what you want, go for it, but don’t forget there are major benefits to not pumping.

It is breastfeeding. The exclusive pumping community refers to it as breastfeeding and when at a doctor and they all say you’re breastfeeding. You aren’t nursing. That’s the difference. 💖

okay this is actually so healing for me to think about because I exclusively pumped and it was miserable obviously so yeah he was exclusively fed breast milk, just not *nursed*
