The explaimations it provided for to many things did not match reality.

I left because I am autistic and was never treated as a person with value, only something that was annoying and needed to be fixed. I also can’t deal with the hypocrisy. Things like we don’t Halloween because scary zombies and ghosts and “worshipping the dead” but worshipping dead zombie ghost Jesus is acceptable because he’s “god.”

Logic

Over time, I saw that the reasons that I felt like I needed to be Christian were totally divorced from critical thinking and from reality. I went to religion when I was feeling low and worthless, when my loved ones were dying, and when I fell prey to charismatic speakers. I was looking for meaning, and security. Ultimately, it’s impossible for me to believe in fairy tales long-term. Once I start feeling better, I see clearly again. At this point, it’s too obvious for me to fall for anymore.

I left the church when I started having questions that my pastor couldn’t answer. I still believe in God and Jesus, but my problem is with the church and that I feel like there are pieces missing. Also, some of the most judgemental, bigoted, hateful and gossipy people have sat in pews beside me; it’s not my job or duty to condemn anyone or be hateful towards them. When the church changes its ways MAYBE I’ll attend again. But I feel confident as is with my relationship with God.
