"I was planning to marry you" leaves her own wishes a bit out, don't you think. I mean, I can *plan* a promotion, still my boss can say "nope". "I would have loved to marry you" is an entirely different matter. But perhaps I'm splitting hairs here. Sounds manipulative.

That COULD be the case, but it could just as easily mean, simply, that he loved her so much that he wanted to marry her. We cannot be jumping to these conclusions with so little information.. to me he just sounds heartbroken
