My response would probably just have been "right back at you". If they arent willing to discuss pay at any phase then it's not worth interviewing for imo. Any employer who doesn't grasp that employment is a contract of labor for money is not going to treat you like a human being.

This depends what stage you are at. If you are asking this before an interview, that is not appropriate, but if they are asking whether you would like to accept an offer, it is more than appropriate

Who you’re going to become? Someone broke lmao employers like that never pay well. Also, just imagine if it worked like this anywhere else. You’re at costco and they’re like “Oh you wanna how much this bread is? We’ll only tell you if you buy it. Could be 2 bucks, could be 50.”

The recruiter even admitted this behavior is a red flag😅 But yeah, if they are not telling you how much you'll get, RUN. If you hear motivational quotes, inspiration, progress bs, RUN. If they are telling you "we're friends/family here", RUN.
