When my daughter was a baby, her hair was short, because, you know, she was a baby. We didn’t feel we owed passersby the convenience of putting a bow on her or dressing her all in pink just so they would know she was a girl. The upshot was that if she wasn’t wearing something overtly girly that day, 8/10 strangers would guess she was a boy. I’m convinced it was because some thought, absent any certainty, that it was less offensive to guess boy and be wrong than to guess girl and be wrong.

We’re more ok with trans men than trans women for this very reason. Like who in their right mind would want to be a woman? They must be insane!
