Interesting things about Japan. In Japan, there are broadly two dialects: Osaka dialect and the standard Tokyo dialect. When people from Osaka and Tokyo are talking, everyone inevitably gets drawn into the Osaka dialect. Is there something like this in your country?

一天內	Naoko pocorinate	I'm Japanese, born and raised in the Kanto region. I can understand the Kansai and Hiroshima dialects. I don't understand the Kagoshima and Tsugaru dialects at all. They're like foreign languages to me.
一天內	Oswald Shea ozzyman1987	Not sure if this is similar to China. Generally speaking there are 8 main dialects, but I can understand two (Cantonese and Mandarin) only. So when I am in Hong Kong I speak Cantonese, when I am back to mainland China I switch to Mandarin.
