I didn’t crate train my first puppy & he ate my baseboards. Crate trained my 2nd puppy & I feel secure when I am not home knowing he can’t get into trouble chewing cords or whatnot when I am not home to watch him. He sleeps in it at night & he is quite happy - it is his den with a nice soft bed & blankets & toys…he is a happy boy.

My 170 lb, 6 year old, highly trained therapy dog, Great Dane did this when he was left alone in the house while we grocery shopped. If your dog doesn’t do anything when you’re gone, congratulations. Every dog and every situation is different. Don’t judge

I agree and when I tried to crate train my dog. She screamed at the top of her lungs and I couldn’t keep going. But I saw a post that said that if you ever need to travel, your pup would have to go in the crate cause in my case she’s too big and heavy to go in the cabin. That’s when I felt I had made a mistake. If I ever have to leave or travel I’m not leaving her. But she can’t handle a crate. So doesn’t give me much of a choice but go in a car. I just hope I never have to come to that decision

We’ve used a crate as a little house for our dog ever since we got her and didn’t close it, and now it’s her nighttime bed that she absolutely loves. When we tried letting her sleep in our bed with us, she actually went back to her crate to sleep! It’s her super safe space, and we’ve never used it for punishment, which is why she feels so comfortable in it. She even has a pillow in there that she really enjoys.
