don’t call me ‘Dr’ in non-clinical setting. just please don’t. we shall stop addressing people by the way they shouldn’t be adddressed in settings and times that they don’t need to. the same way i don’t address you Dato’ when I was about to take your blood, or do your CPR. it’s time and saliva consuming and its not needed. our ego don’t need that. at least mine don’t (happily so). It’s SO out of context and for me low key poyo to the point that it’s deeply embarassing 😵‍💫

Well said. People (out of hospital) are usually surprised when I say 'pls don't call me Dr'. Kinda surprising that this is not a generally common opinion

as someone from a preschool, usually parents who are doctors don't usually introduce themselves as doctors. so we simply call them puan, encik, tuan etc.

There’s 1 time a patient came to my dental office & asked “so, you’re the dentist?shall I call you DOCTOR?”. It sounds a bit provocative to me , hence I replied, “it’s ok if you wanna call me by my name or Puan or Makcik also I don’t mind. What matter is the treatment I’m about to give & you pay afterwards”. Diam terus dia

Yes I agree. I always intro myself/my husband as "name only" as I think the title dr is only meaningful when I'm at work. But my neighbour intro himself as "hi, Dr ××× & Dr xxxx(wife) here" everytime new neighbors join in our whatsapp group... btw, same with those with title "hajah". Kalau address dia puan tak boleh.

Since i don't have any title, and i'm always called people by their title (Doc, nurse, encik, puan, dato etc).. i can't relate to this. Haha. Oklah understand your point, cuma kdg2 taktahu nk panggil apa when meet outside of professional setting, especially if we're not really kawan2. And i assure you, those people called you that bcs they hv so much respect to you and your title. 😊

But sometimes, others who may not know you personally particularly strangers may address you in such a way out of their respect to your position or authority. Only when they are told not to do so, then they will call you without such title.

Yes this icks me too, especially if they put dr as username in socmed. I've been a doctor for 12 years now still find it distasteful coming across these 'dr' flaunting people. And these drs selling product, dont even get me started.
