I’ve been in Europe for a month now on a 3 month trip. The most striking difference I see between USA and Europe (Spain & Portugal so far) is the lack of homeless people. Maybe I’ve seen 3?

USA does not have homeless people. It has drug addicts, just like every first world country

There's definitely some here too (Portugal/Spain) but way fewer than in the USA. The USA has a massive drug abuse problem and a terrible strategy to deal with it (criminalization+lack of health support). Unfortunately in Portugal it has been getting worse with housing prices and a new boom in drug abuse due to cut in resources to support the health of people with addictions...

Spent two months in various countries across Europe and my kids picked up on this by week 2. Very few homeless people if any, and nobody who was mentally incapacitated or severely mentally unstable until one evening in the southern part of Portugal. One person in two months. And even he was on the tame side for what we’re accustomed to seeing in the US.

Your Observation are correct. There are definetly way more in the US. Skid Row is a whole different Dimension of homelessness.

I have lived in Barcelona for 5 years. Trust me - there are homeless people all around here, homie. And drug addicts too.
