“Outsider art” today is an absurd concept, in the past it referred to artists who were not sanctioned by the academy, which was a guild controlling access to the market, and professional training was stictly defined. Colleges today are not the same, in fact it is galleries who control access to the market today. So an outsider should be an artist without representation. Instead we have “outsider” art fairs where the “outsider” artists are all insiders who are represented by galleries artists
