Make sure you have very thick skin. A large part of locals will despise you being here and will make sure you feel it. Not all, but many. Many have lost family roots and relationships in the past few years due to extremely high costs of housing and family having to move away. Others have lost the ability to have a home all together. They will make sure the pain they feel about it is passed along. Join a local Facebook group and just say, “moving here anyone have a lead on housing”.

Great place for writers. Endless inspiration and plenty of space to sit and be still. In Billings and surrounding areas you can expect mid 300s for a nice home. Apartments/condos are in the $1200-$2000/mo range. Property taxes are low, no state sales tax, no tolls or traffic to speak of.

I love it! I live in Helena but honestly would rather live in a smaller town like Townsend or Boulder etc.

Housing is insane, it’s always freezing, and most of the state (like 98% of the state) is NOT welcoming to newcomers.
