Job hunting in Japan is next level crazy and out of this world experience. Story time: I was looking for a job since last month, interviewing with a couple of companies and I finally got 2 offers by the end of Oct. First company, let's called it company A and other as company B. Started it out with submission of my resume > document screening > phone/ online interview > in person interview which is followed by an email offer from both companies. I was told to sign the employment contract on a given date and agreed on starting date as well. Without thinking a second thought, I promptly decline the other job offer from Company A and submitted resignation at my current role. Moving forward one week after, only to be informed that there will be a final interview at the Company B which I have already received the job offer.

However, I found there is socalled 内定者面談orオファー面談 after signing the contract. According to the source I checked, these meetings does not have any influence on withdrawal of the contract. I assume these practices may from 新卒 hiring process to finalize mutual consent on the hiring. Some companies and practices suck indeed here, but hope this helps to clear up your confusion !

One is now a successful self-employed graphic designer and the other is taking a break to bring up her little boy.

15 小時內	Alexander Laurence 🎸 alexlaurence.music	Yes that's frustrating that they didn't really know what was going on themselves. As far as I am aware, a job offer is just that. An offer. You typically sign a work contract shortly before joining. But in Japan, new hires typically join in April... Or in the case of mine in October. These tie into the start of the 1st and 3rd quarter of the fiscal year.
