24 hours since I lost my dad. I have no living parents. It feels very strange and lonely. Can others who lost both parents send their insights on this feeling, new life

Know that your parents went through this too at one point and they were well aware you would have to go through it too....and knew you could handle it as they did.

My eldest brother broke when my mom followed my dad. “I’m an orphan now”… He buried himself in pills and alcohol and joined them eventually. I spent many years missing them, wishing I could talk to them. So now I do, silently. It’s rough, I know, on us. The ones left behind. But they’re still there, in your heart. It gets better ♥️

My dad died 8 yrs ago at Thanksgiving & my mom developed dementia soon after, so i’m orphaned too. Even at 66 i feel like a lost child.

Lost my mom three years ago and my dad last year. I was their caretaker so it wasn't a shock. But since, I'm attached to the items they kept for decades. I surrounded myself with them to help me relive my childhood. Things I thought I hated are now precious. My mom and uncle proved there's life after death. That was one of the blessings that came from this experience. That, and my dad and I becoming best friends after mom passed. If you want signs, ask for them. (((Hug)))

I am so sorry for your loss. My parents died a year apart. What seemed odd to me (but is completely normal) was this feeling of being an orphan. Whatever age you are when both of your parents die, that feeling can descend on you. And you’re right, it is a new life that can be simultaneously more and less complicated.

I lost my dad (didn’t knew him) 2019 and my mum 2021. Only recently felt pretty much ”normal”. Of course not all are the same, you’ll propably will cry your eyes out, feel numb (luckily mind is so wonderful it kind of protects itself from too much pain). Time cures the wounds, they say.. so so sorry for your loss!

It is a very rude awakening. You’re an orphan, adult or not. But I learned to take that intense loss and pass on the love I can no longer receive from my parents to others who are hurting. And I am a big believer in prayer, and asking for God’s comfort, strength, peace, and hope for the future.

My Mam died in 2005. It was sudden and avoidable. My Dad died ten days ago after a short illness. It's too early for me to know how I feel. But I empathise with you. I am very grateful to have my sister. ❤️

It is such an unmooring. It's a strange feeling to be so untethered. Peace be with you.
