The Agojie were an elite corps of female warriors from the Kingdom of Dahomey, located in present-day Benin. They are often referred to as the “Dahomey Amazons,” though their real name was the Agojie or Mino. This all-female military regiment played a significant role in protecting the kingdom and expanding its territories from the 17th century until the late 19th century.
