Carbon is the most abundant element in the universe, and there are trillions of galaxies (that we know of, perhaps there are infinite). It is impossible for life not to have also developed out there. It’s also pretty unlikely that we’ll ever encounter it. Call me unimaginative, but I imagine all planetary civilizations end in nuclear war, climate change, or the shrinking of the goldilocks zone. Even if they managed to colonize space, unless they’re in Messier 90, they’ll never reach us.
