I get two pairs of socks out of a $30 wool skein. So after that you're figuring what your time is worth. Takes me about 20 hours to knit a pair.

It seems like most of my responses are from people in the yarn community who know the cost of sock yarns (the one I used was $29, which makes approximately 3 socks, so a pair and some for a scrap project). My point is: if you receive a handcrafted gift, it likely cost more than something similar from a store and took many hours to make. Instead of trying to monetize it for the crafter, just say thank you and appreciate the gift.

$25 doesn’t even cover the cost of the yarn in most places. And then there’s your time to consider

I will never sell anything I make. Full Stop. Like many knitters I've been in the situation in which a person asks will you knit me X, then if I say no (or if I just don't instantly respond) they quickly add, "I'll pay you!"

I saw something recently that I loved, it went something like this: "it's like sex; if I like you and I feel appreciated, I'll give it to you for free. If not, you can't pay me enough."

300 for a pair of socks would still not cover my time.

I’m not a knitter though I am a Weaver. But I have tried knitting , it’s hard!. And I would pay you at least $60 for your handmade socks.
