At the weather gets colder, do we like knitting with (and ultimately wearing) bulky or chunky yarns? Asking for a friend (me, I'm the friend) Knit Threads

I love a chunky knit! I live in Canada and it gets pretty cold here so it’s nice to feel like i’m getting a big hug from a mama sheep! It’s also a quicker knit project which can be nice sometimes as well. Chunky knits are like blankets that you can wear all day. That’s a yes for me! 💜

I am 100% fingering weight for all seasons. Although sport weight is making its way into my rotation lately.

It depends on how I feel, but I usually love bulky yarns for accessories; fingering for layers/worsted+ for what I call Snow Day sweaters (warm enough to wear outside for snow cleanup)! Though I do have a jumbo sweater in my queue for this year!

*cries in Texan, wiping tears with bulky knit blankets I only use because my couch is right under the a/c vent*

I find bulky sweaters simultaneously too hot, and not windproof/ draft-proof enough. (I live in North Carolina and wear sweaters both indoors and outdoors).

Bulky or chunky are great for coats/jackets or a cardigan that’s oversized intended to be worn similarly. Otherwise maybe for a hat or scarf! But I avoid them for main layer garments because I live in a warm climate.

It was great to start with chunky knits because they’re much easier to finish when you’re just starting. However, anything over a dk weight is basically unwearable for me down in Houston, so I just don’t invest my time and resources in those kind of knits much.
