Oh wow. Reading how that assessment is written is quite disturbing in my opinion.... it's already geared in the way of thinking that there is a problem with the child because they're autistic. The well being of one person should not be based on how they make others feel. Example : talks about things others/adults don't care about? Like wtf. My girlfriend is autistic and it's insane what will come out of people's mouths. (Written language included)

Honestly I'd hand it in with all these adendums and a note at the beginning that tells them these questions are illogical and insensitive and being autistic yourself you don't know what to answer. Maybe also ask how any of this is relevant to the education of your kid?

You're a great mom. I have a lot to say about your post but none of it would be anything that you a) don't already know and b) haven't already handled wonderfully. Your child is lucky to have you.

Nah I would turn it in just like that. Then again if your child would thrive better with an IEP I would answer the questions just so that he gets an IEP and when he has one I would make my way into the office and tell them the are a bunch of ableist F*ckers!

According to this ridiculously question I probably should be autistic (I have ADHD). Honestly, refuse to do it, or out of spite rewrite the whole thing and leave a message for whoever created this

Actually not knowing why people didn’t like me was my life. All the way through school, undiagnosed, I could never understand why they were so intent to cause me upset or what I’d done to upset them. And talking about things that didn’t interest others - horses and whatever band I was hyper focused on at the time were the only things I thought or talked about, I didn’t realise other people wouldn’t feel the same.

I just recently filled this out too for my oldest! And I did struggle with answering some of these due to this wording, although I do understand the basic point that they were going for (I ended up trying to be more clinical in answering, because I figured I needed to separate my personal love of my kid with knowing that we're both fairly sure he's on the spectrum and we want all the resources while we can). (also seeing these questions made me realize I'm most likely on the ASD spectrum too)

I completely understand the point of how diagnosing/setting an IEP for somebody based on outside opinion rather than primary input is weird and insulting, BUT I also feel, as a late diagnosed autistic adult, that the way people reacted to me and my interests was still a huge tip-off that my brain was different than theirs. Again, I understand the point — other people's biased perception of autistic people should not be a standard to be held, but I KIND OF get what they're asking ... ?
