This is such sad news. The 28 year old grand matron of Grand Teton NP -- Grizzly 399 -- was struck and killed by a car yesterday. Human-bear interaction is the number one cause of bear mortality. Absent the intervention of man, almost all bears would die of old age while asleep in their dens. Rest in peace, Great Bear Mother.
