SongwriterThreads Have you ever been so stuck on a second verse that you completely abandoned your song? What about going back to that song, how did you find the inspiration to finish it?

I feel often that the first writing session is about the inspiration. Just get shit out. Even if fhe 2nd verse blows - don’t overthink it. Just write some type of dribble bullshit - as long as the core idea is there. The 2nd round is where you start to ask “what is this song really about?” And you beat your head against the wall and kill yourself until you get it all right. This is the way.

Sometimes the writing is just practice. You have to do some of that even if you get to a higher level. It’s like exercise, vs competition. Practice. You don’t release your practice sessions. You don’t have to show everything you write to the world. I tried 4 versions of one song that ultimately did not work. That’s ok. I learned from the process. I’m better at what I do for it.

Yes. I went back and finished it 20 years later. Gotta give it time!
