Can someone please explain why a baseball showdown between two American teams is called the “World Series”? Did the rest of the world lose their invite?

No, the rest of the World either wishes they were on an MLB level, or send their best players here to play in the MLB hence the term is still relevant 🤷🏻♂️

Same reason we could consider the super bowl the "world championship" for football. no team outside of our league would be competitive

The term was coined a long time ago just like how the NBA calls it's finals winner the world champs, times when nobody cares and nobody would complain about it. I still don't care but then again maybe they ought to change it.
