Tis the truth. I come from a working class background where being a writer was not supported. Scholarships have helped. I only know two authors who write full time and don't do something else. The rest of us work everywhere we can, and fit in the writing when we can. I've found trying to earn enough money to live, doing rubbish, and some odd and wonderful jobs, creates good stories to write about. I know loads of authors from marginalised backgrounds. It's tough, but if you want to write, WRITE!
