Beginning metal guitarists should learn to play barre chords just like everyone else, even if they'll never record or play a single one live. Wrapping your head around having some fingers straight and others curved are exactly what you'll need for great noise control, even on 1-3 string chugs. Why is this additive to just focusing on noise control? Well, imo for a beginner it's a more tangible target with clear criteria for if you've done it well.
