While I somewhat agree with where you’re coming from - as a parent, trick or treating isn’t that safe anymore. And people don’t even participate with giving out candy in my neighborhood. Last year less than half the houses were lit up. So like trunk or treats are becoming the safer, more popular choice.

Yes! Thank you I don’t get it. Some of my best childhood memories are of trick or treating around my neighborhood, seeing the different houses & displays, interacting with neighbors, and getting a variety of candy. It’s an authentic experience of childhood that kids are missing.

Tell me about it!! My partner and I went scouting for neighborhoods with houses that *look* like they’d give out candy on Halloween. It’s hard to find houses that are in a row, or at least close enough together to make it worth going to! I hate it, I truly wish trunk or treat wasn’t a thing in well populated areas!! (Note: We live in an apartment, which is why we looked for neighborhoods 😬 this is also only our second Halloween with our kid.)

My community is attempting to get people more into it buts it's been difficult. We've had several years of really poor weather partially to thank for that, but also the rising cost of candy pricing out seniors on fixed incomes from handing out. We've seen a large decline in the last decade on our street alone. I'd estimate only 1 in every 10 houses or so participate.

I honestly don't want my kids knocking on people's doors

As a parent of 2 I hate them then Halloween comes and the neighborhoods are so dry very boring but I'm expected to go to 12 Trunk or Treats there is so many of them 😩
