today, someone told me “i’m feeling so autistic this morning”. last week, i was talking to someone else who said “aren’t we all a little autistic”. last month someone else blurted out “ugh sorry i’m so autistic sometimes”. none of these people are autistic… i’m only really close to one of them, but i have talked about autism with all of them. i have no idea how to stand up for myself and the community in situations like that. it always makes me so uncomfortable. i’m so scared of confrontation.

4 分鐘內	jenn ☾ beaniewitch	i have no problem educating strangers and family members but when it comes to friends and friends of friends i struggle so hard to correct them. i wish i had the mental capacity to speak up instead of shutting down in utter disappointment. especially because these people know i’m autistic. they know that they are not autistic. i wonder if i had visibly higher support needs, if they would make those same comments to and around me. probably not.

Personally, the other two give me more questions than offense. Could they mean "I feel like I really relate to you some days"? Could they mean "I'm awkward but I am curious and I want to learn more about how autism is or feels." Not everyone has the right words to say "I want to know more of your thoughts about autism" or "I want you to feel your autism can be normal around me"

You'll either find out that they are high masking Autistics that are flirting with the idea that they might be neurodivergent OR they will stop saying those things because they are tired of answering questions. 🤣 Just a thought.
13 小時內	Jackpot jackpottonline	I’m not sure how I would go about this either :/. Maybe say that it’s not accurate and makes you uncomfortable? Or that it’s ableist and they could be/are offending actually autistic people. Tell them to use a different term instead. Something like tired, or silly. Even though you don’t know them well it’s important that they know it’s wrong. Stand up for yourself! You’ve got this!
