It's important to change the terminology from "online relationship" to "long distance relationship." An online relationship sets the expectation that you shouldn't make an effort to meet regularly. A long distance relationship sets the expectation that you should meet for the first time within one to three months maximum, and then continue to make an effort to meet in person as often as possible.
