My oldest is 15 years old and we kept them rear-facing until they were 4. (Which is when they asked to face forward. They didn't ask any earlier). We've known rear-facing was safest for a LOOONG time. Where has that NP been? (I've also been rear-ended while stopped at a red light going uphill. Super fun, huh?)

I used to sit on a child fatality review board. My child will be rear facing until the height and/or weight limits are met. I will never forget those accidents where kids didn’t make it and likely would have rear facing.

I can guarantee we’re going to get crap from family, but our kids will be rear facings as long as possible BECAUSE of reasons like this! It’s just safer

I could careless that your child is still rearfacing. I have a harder time that you are still referring to your child in months when that child is almost 3 years old .

Technically that NP, unless they were also a CPST, which probably not with that bad recommendation, is out of their scope of practice commenting on car seat safety. My pediatrician literally handed me a card with the number for our health department's on staff CPST and said they would advise me on car seats cause it was outside her expertise.

Props to you! My 5 year old maxed out his rear-facing limits around 32 months and I was so sad. Little brother got a seat with a 10# higher rear facing limit and is happy as a clam rear facing at 28 months- with almost 20# to go until he maxes out. The number of people who give us grief for keeping our kids safe is astounding
