My favorite Teri Garr story: Mel Brooks had a hard time getting Madeline Khan to sign on for YOUNG FRAKENSTEIN, so he had Teri on standby. When Madeline finally agreed, Brooks said to Garr, "If you come back tomorrow with a German accent, you can have the part of the assistant.” Without missing a beat, Garr replied, “Oh ja, I vill come back tomorrow.” She'd based the voice off Cher's wigmaker, who was from Dusseldorf.
