There is absolutely a message, pushed by realtors and media, that you’re supposed to aspire to a big house. Well, big house: big payment, higher taxes, higher upkeep, pressure to keep up with neighbors, more expensive furniture. It’s a long list. Most Americans are over housed. The rest are doing pretty well, financially, if they bought the right house
