I happened to see that scene from The Handmaid's Tale where the boss walks in and apologetically fires all of the women in the office, and it probably says something not-great about me and/or society that *that* scene was somehow the one that shook me as much as any - it felt very close to home, easy to imagine, and the feeling of shame and powerlessness of that moment is very easy to access.

Then every single man I love did the same- minimized or dismissed the new threat to our health & lives. I’ll never forget those betrayals. It’s part of the reason I’m still single and not dating. I lost a lot of faith in men that day.
