So he’s worked hard all his life and earnt that money, paid tax on it. Just for the government to swoop in when he dies and claim a load of it for themselves. Yeah seems really fair. Kinda takes away the incentive to work hard and leave something for your family doesn’t it

A farmer who has to pay tax, at 40%, on death, on land he farms, is not going to be able to pass on the farm he ran, to his children. There will be farms that are unviable after losing a chunk of land to pay IHT.

Farmers are often asset rich but income poor. One of the biggest problems in farming is that the next generation does not want to farm. So it is an aging occupation. Younger people from non farming families who do want to farm can't afford it. Needs to be some creative thinking somewhere.

Look at Clarkson, farmed for a year, has millions in land assets, yet made £175.00 profit at the end of the year. Just because you have land; doesn’t mean you eat caviar. (Although Clarkson is cash rich)
