It’s not because the comparison is foolish. The football helmet is completely different than a baseball call. Also DB focus primarily on the WR. And have to develop the instinct to locate the ball. An outfield watches a ball get pitched, hit, and see’s the direction in which is travels. The comparison itself is invalid.

Especially on deep passes when you know if you don’t and you make contact its going to be a PI. You’re right the comparison to an outfielder in the OP only really can be only be true when refering to a WR, KR or PR who is judging a ball. OR a DB who does get their head around in time to react.
