also for further reference my hair is VERY flat and fine, it takes me time and effort to get the “messy” look so it’s definitely a compliment to me as I envy the style! (I also use that term because in order to get this style I have to PHYSICALLY ‘mess’ it up… I shake it agrressively and tousle it with my hands in the tutorial)

no but yes. curly hair, esp poc curly hair has been stigmatized as unkempt and messy and that’s likely where this person is coming from.

Messy is the way it’s styled not the texture like they’re inferring in that comment. As a hairstylist that’s a wild take. Uniform, beachhy, pagent, marcel, Hollywood, messy are all types of ways of CURLING AND STYLING.
