I love seeing people put Jamaican Patois and Haitian Creole as languages they speak on their resume because Yes. Those are legitimate languages.

Patois has a different history because it varies by island, sometimes even region. What’s so fun about linguistics is that AAVE is actually itself a form of patois. It just has an official name.
